Here are a few tips:

Know Your Niche
You must know exactly who it is you are trying to reach. Marketing to the masses does not do you any favors. Dig deep and take the time to work on your ideal group member. What does he/she love? What does he/she do for a living? Does he/she have a family? It’s really important to get super specific here. Start by doing recommended exercises for finding your ideal customer to build personality prototypes. Your audience is out there; you just have to speak to them!

Keep it Closed, but Not Secret and Use Tags
It’s tempting to keep your group public so everyone can see it but that is a quick way to turn new members off. People want to join your group for exclusivity and a way to bond to their fellow group members.

On the other hand, don’t make it secret if you want people to find you. The “Closed” option allows people to see your cover photo and your group description to decide if they want to join.

Finally, be sure you add tags to categorize your group. This makes your group discoverable and allows those who enjoy the same interests better able to find you.

Don’t Add People Without Asking First
Have you ever started receiving notifications on your Facebook news feed for a random group you’d been added to without anyone asking if you wanted to be in it? It’s a somewhat violating feeling, isn’t it?

So, don’t do it to others! The fastest way to lose people is to do something without their permission. Talk to people who feel like your ideal group member and see if what you have to offer is something that can actually benefit them. Only then should you extend the invite into your group. Remember, it’s not about quantity–it’s about quality.

Create Daily Content
People are only going to come back to your group every day if you are offering fun, exciting content and engagement daily. At first this is going to be mostly on YOU! As you grow, the group will start engaging with one another but in the meantime, sit down and plan out some content for your group. Maybe you have themed days like Motivation Monday or Talk About it Tuesday. Whatever you schedule, make sure it fits with your group theme and what the community has rallied around. Have fun with it!

Utilize Live Video
The best way for people to know you, like you, and trust you is to go LIVE in your group! They want to connect to a real human. Plan out what you are going to talk about on your live video with a few bullet points and keep it under 15 to 20 minutes so that watching the recording doesn’t take up too much of their time. Be your authentic self and remember that you will only get better the more you do it.

If you are still wanting to do more live video research, Facebook has a few best practices for you to follow.

Facebook Groups are one of the best kept secrets on what can be a very loud and busy platform. Groups allow you to break through the noise and reach your most ideal, targeted community, which is an extremely valuable digital marketing strategy.
